Black Fox Solve

A compact thermal reserve that keeps AI data center cooling running through short interruptions.

Batteries store power. Thermal storage removes heat directly. We're designing a reserve that absorbs heat while primary cooling recovers.

The problem

AI equipment runs hot. Cooling can't take a break.

When a chiller trips or power transfers, cooling can drop out for minutes while heat keeps building. Operators need a way to ride through the gap.

  • Short interruptions matter. A few minutes without heat removal can put equipment and uptime at risk.
  • AI loads are denser. Facilities adding AI equipment are putting more heat into the same rooms.
  • Space is tight. Many existing data centers have little room left for bulky backup cooling.

Our approach

Store the cooling, not just the power.

Batteries

Store electricity

They keep equipment powered, but they don't remove heat on their own.

Chilled-water reserve

Store cold water

A proven way to bridge interruptions, but tanks take up valuable floor space.

Black Fox Solve

Compact thermal reserve

Absorbs heat directly, likely with a phase-change material, and is designed to fit alongside existing cooling. The study will confirm the right technology.

Study targets

What the first study is designed to test.

100kW

of thermal duty removed

Target
5min

of ride-through while holding required coolant temperature

Target
50%

less floor space than an equivalent chilled-water reserve

Target

Study targets, not results. None of these figures has been demonstrated yet. Testing them is the purpose of the feasibility study and prototype.

Where it fits

Retrofits first, then new builds.

First

Existing data centers

Facilities adding AI equipment that need cooling ride-through but are short on space.

Next

New AI facilities

Designed into new builds from day one, as the system scales up.

Roadmap

Prove it in stages.

  1. Feasibility study

A paid, fixed-scope study with an established thermal engineering firm: can it work, what advantage can it deliver, and what will testing cost?

  2. Prototype and test

Build and test against the 100 kW, 5-minute target, including third-party fire testing of candidate materials.

  3. Path to about 1 MW

Scale from the first 100 kW step toward about 1 MW for larger deployments.

Safety is built in. Some phase-change materials are flammable, so we favor non-flammable or low-flammability options and require third-party fire testing before any installation.
